Wordzine | beautiful multilingual language learning kids app
✔ iPad + iPhone | kids app for ages 3-9 years
Wordzine is a beautifully illustrated dictionary app, with which children can learn up to 9 different languages with: English ➔ Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Dutch, Russian and Chinese (more languages to be added soon). And although the digital dictionary app offers 10 language packages including professional narration, it only costs $ 0.99 which is a real bargain being equipped with 115 MB, which is a relatively modest memory consumption.
Modern picture dictionary
First of all, kids need to/can pick a desired object language. The various languages were deliberately not hidden in a separate setting area, but instead kids get encouraged to also try out and get to know other languages in a playful way.
Vocabulary till the cows come home
The vocabs are presented with many beautiful illustrations, which have been kept in a simple modern flat design. The app mentions it’s “hundreds of words”, but doesn’t give out any information on the amount of vocabulary included, which is why we have made the effort to count through the range of words and counted over 380+ words, so not bad at all!
The vocabularies were sorted into the following word fields:
- Street (24)
- School (32)
- Kitchen (42)
- Travel (45)
- Toy Store (40)
- People & Professions (24)
- Home (32)
- Supermarket (50)
- Beach (39)
- Fashion (26)
- Circus (27)
After choosing one of the named categories, the app changes to a close-up view, where the pictures are largely presented on the top half of the display. On the bottom half of the screen, is the English and foreign notation. By clicking onto the word or picture, kids get to hear the pronunciation of the words, as many times as they like.
Also common phrases
Besides the vocabs are also two or three common phrases in each category, but unfortunately the target group was not kept in mind, whilst selecting these. This way, kids learn the phrase “Could you open the door, please?” as well as “Honey, I’m home!” in the category Home.

Wordzine | kids app rating
Wordzine is a beautiful and colorful language learning app for kids and also a real bargain from the Kids App Store. We’re really happy with the range of languages and vocabulary, however we do miss a little test mode, where the vocabs that had been learned by kids can be checked via a picture-multiple-choice test. This would have been a nice additional feature. This way however, the app remains a nice picture dictionary app, which invites kids to explore the foreign languages in a free and casual way.
