The Snowman and the Snowdog | gentle endless runner game of the official film
iPad & iPhone, Android, Kindle fire | kids app for ages 7+ years
Well Christmas may be over but winter isn’t, which is why we want to introduce you to a very wintery app for kids today: “The Snowman and the Snowdog” is a free game of the well-known eponymous film.
The Snowman and the Snowdog a beautiful, calm kids app with optional in-app purchases!
Beautiful endless runner game with the flying Snowman
The app is available for free and also for all devices. Basically, kids get to navigate the snowman with simple gestures, above a three-lane track, in this beautiful endless runner style game. The snowman automatically flies this route just above the ground and the control is therefore limited to avoid obstacles, which cross his way. The pace of the snowman starts off fairly slowly and speeds up throughout the game to a quite challenging speed, which may be a little too fast for some kids.
Awesome Graphics & Landmarks
The spectacular graphics of the game most certainly is not inferior to the wonderful illustrations of the original picture book. On his journey, he comes across many British landmarks and interesting places, which were impressively staged throughout the game. The snowman flies a lot higher when he’s between different places, that way you get to see the beautiful landscapes from a bird’s eye perspective.
A musical delight
The full official soundtrack of the London Metropolitan Orchestra has been completely included to this app and lends the game a very special atmosphere. The music varies depending on the level and situation in the game and also makes sure that plenty of fun is added to this game.
Optional in-app purchases and sporadic advertising
As we have completed this game without any in-app purchases, we’re inclined to ignore the pointless offer of additional snowflakes in the shop area. Unfortunately, we’ve also come across some ad-banners occasionally for another Channel 4 app, which is an absolute no-go in kids apps and therefore needs some serious criticizing. You’ll find the following note about this in the iTunes description:
Please note – the App may contain promotions for Channel 4’s other products and services (eg. for Channel 4’s 4oD service) as well as some static in-game advertising (eg. in-game billboards) for third party products and services.

The Snowman and the Snowdog kids app rating
We find it hard to not to like the app even with it’s child-unfriendly in-app purchases and advertising banners. This endless runner app is also so much better than other games of this category.
Pro’s
(+) If you hit an obstacle, you can continue the journey up to three times.
(+) You can restart the game from it’s last place afterwards.
(+) There are enough snowflakes available on the routes to play this game without the use of any in-app purchases.
Con’s
(-) Occasional ad-banner appearances for other Channel 4 apps
(-) The in-apps have no child security
(-) the rising speed is too difficult for younger children, who would actually like to play this game.
The age recommendation is therefore vague. Depending on the experience you’re children are bringing along from other endless runner games, we can recommend the app for kids at the ages 7 and above. Topically and visually speaking, it definitely interests younger children more, especially for the Snowman and the Snowdog, but unfortunately the kids app developer missed out on the occasion to aim the app for “toddlers” and young children and is therefore a rather frustrating game experience for those.
Due to the in app purchases in this game, we cannot recommend this app for toddlers and kindergarten kids.
Top best apps for kids rating: 4 stars
