The little wolf | beautiful iPad storybook app for kids
✔ iPad | Storybook app for kids ages 3+ yrs.
The little wolf is a remarkable interactive storybook app with beautiful hand-drawn illustrations and interesting textures. The drawings were originally meant for a conventional printed children’s book, but after we had enjoyed the story on the iPad, we can consider ourselves quite lucky, that the little wolf had been published digitally first and therefore offers lots of interactivities, which leaves the book stores on hold.
The little wolf’s birthday trip
On his birthday, the little wolf decides to go on an adventurous little trip through the forest – to the city, to the seaside and even much farther. What he is about to experience, is told in this storybook app through all of it’s countless and beautiful illustrations. Countless, because none of the pages are being turned, but instead the landscapes scroll smoothly into one another. We can therefore only vaguely tell you how big the story is, or how many pages there actually are. We’re guessing about 30 pages long, which is pretty remarkable for a storybook.
Lots of animal friends come along!
Of course small wolf would like to have a big birthday party with all of his friends, that he is meeting along his travel and also taking piggy-back as soon as he found them.
So throughout the story, the lonely wolf gets a whole team of cute and friendly animal friends, with whom the kids simply fall in love with.
Interactive Storybook app
Kids are able to explore the story and scenes at their own pace. When the animals are touched, a speech-bubble with text appears but unfortunately without narration. However, the app developers are planning to add a narrator for each language soon. Parents or friends will need to read out to the kids for now, or perhaps they can already read themselves.
However, the interactions are not only limited to tapping on the different animals. The story begins with a puzzle and at some points in the story, kids can actively choose between options that are given to them. For example, when they arrive at the butchers and need to pick an object of what the wolf would like to eat, or how the story should continue at the seaside. A small maze has also been integrated in the story. There are no extras or bonus games in this storybook app.
The little wolf | storybook app rating
The little wolf is a wonderful and very pleasant storybook app for kids, which we as adults also really enjoyed looking at. A whole new reading experience is given with the smooth sideways scrolling of the pages. The only downside is, that by tapping on the screen, you also skip from page to page, so you might miss out on some of the interactions or text if you’re not careful enough. You therefore need to be quite precise with tapping on the animals.
At the moment, the app is only available for the iPad however, an Android version is underway, now we’re really happy about that!
