Rhythmic Village | Educational Music App for teaching Kids read Sheet Music
✔ iPad + iPhone ✔ Mac ✔ Windows 8
The Portuguese Kids app developers Insignio Labs produce very interesting educational music apps for tablets and Desktop PC’s. Today, we introduce you to a very entertaining app called Rhythmic Village by this team of developers, where kids get to learn to read sheet music in a rhythmical way and therefore improve their tactical skills using percussion’s. In a second review, we’ll introduce you to the recorder app called Oratio’s Flute Master.
Brilliant Games to learn Sheet Music
Rhythmic Village is specialized in the playful learning of note values. Whether it’s whole notes, half notes, quarter notes or pause – all note signs are introduced to the kids as funny animated characters, whereby new sheet music is only introduced, when kids have passed the previous exercises, which makes sense. 5 various exercises are being played on different settings, which we’d quickly like to show you.
1. Learning Game – Rhythmic Puzzle
In order to introduce a new note value, the corresponding sheet music needs to be puzzled with a small sliding puzzle first.
2. Learning Game – Listen & Drum it
In this game, kids need to copy the given rhythm and beat the drum at the right time. 16 percussion instruments provide for plenty of alternation in this and the following game, that need to be unlocked.
3. Learning Game – Fire Dance
Now the musical note characters are no longer just standing around, but instead they are jumping over a campfire after a fast start, well at least when the child strikes the instrument at the right time.
4. Learning Game – Buffalo Run
In this game, kids have to recognize which note sequence matches the played melody, only on the basis of the note signs. The note sequences are presented as Buffalo carriages that drive by with each correct answer, or roll down the hill, if the answer was incorrect.
5. Learning Game – Save the Rhythmiacs
After kids have thoroughly practised reading sheet music, they now get to write their own note sequence: the notes keep on drifting around a long canoe in their boats and have to be placed inside the canoe at the right timing.
Difficulty level adjustable
In order to not overstrain or unchallenge your kids, you can adjust the difficulty level in the settings, by either increasing or decreasing the tempo of the metronome. This way the app gets to keep up with the kids abilities.
Also available for PC & Macintosh
The fact that the app is not only available for iPad and iPhone , but also for Windows PC’s and Apple Macintosh, is noteworthy and definitely something special.
Captivating: Playing along with real Instruments
If you’ve installed Rhythmic Village on your PC or Mac, a captivating feature awaits you: As an alternative input method, kids can navigate the game with a real instrument, or by clapping their hands together. This function is said to be also available for the tablet app in the near future, as an alternative to the touch navigation – which we’re really looking forward to.
In-App Purchase for Full-Version
Rhythmic Village can be played and tested pretty thoroughly for free. The full version only costs $ 0.99 and is offered as a single in-app purchase – which is a pretty fair offer.
YouTube Video Preview
In our YouTube video we start off with the official trailer of the app, where you can also see how kids use the alternative input method. After that, we shortly demonstrate the various educational games of the app.
Rhythmic Village | Kids App Rating
The exercises with the amusing sheet music characters are simply fun and the successes are surprisingly fast. Kids do not only learn to read sheet music, but also to write sheet music (5th game). The app also trains children’s sense of hearing and their sense of tact. No wonder, that Rhythmic Village has already made it to the school’s classrooms in Portugal.
