Pippi Longstocking’s Villa Villekulla | outstanding kids app by Filimundus
✔ iPad + iPhone ✔ Android ✔ Kindle Fire | kids app for ages 4-6+ yrs.
We can tell you one thing straight away: This Pippi Longstocking app by Filimundus belongs to one of the best kids apps of the year and most certainly gives kids plenty of entertainment and lots to discover and explore. Perhaps we shouldn’t put this app on a pedestal so soon, so that the app can have the same effect on you, because the app really includes some interesting surprises. Come and join us on our adventurous trip around the Villa Villekulla.
After kids were greeted by Pippi in the lobby of the Villa Villekulla, the fun can practically begin. Small red arrows point out rooms that can be entered. Three games can be discovered in each of the rooms (with one exception) and in addition, all rooms are riddled with little things that have been given various sounds and animations.
We would have certainly recommended this app to you, even if it was only half the size it is, but this way, it simply leaves our editors and kids speechless and stunned. We have counted over 20 diversified games, which we’d all like to introduce to you. All children will surely get their (the parents) moneys worth with this app. The games even refer to one another, which we’ll now like to demonstrate.
Cooking and baking allowed
In one of the three (!) games in the kitchen, kids get to play by the stove. Here you can bake cookies and biscuits with the strangest and wackiest combinations and ingredients, which can then be cut out with various baking forms. Also in these games, kids get to enjoy the lovely details. Depending on the ingredients, the dough changes it’s color. The longer you keep your finger on the baking tray, the bigger the cake or cookie gets etc.
After the cookies provided kids with yet another surprise whilst baking in the oven, the mini game eventually ends.
Only at a later time, in another tea party mini game, we found our baked cookies again. In this game, you can also muck about and do crazy things, just as it is common for Pippi Longstocking. Here, kids can combine lemonade with coffee and feed biscuits to Pippi’s horse Lilla Gubben and her monkey Mr. Nilsson. Funny, witty and entertaining!
We have made a YouTube video trailer, which shows you some insights of Pippi Longstocking’s Villa Villekulla with Pippi and her friends Tommy and Annika – let the baking fun begin…
Playing various instruments
One funny and interesting instrument of the many instruments in the Villa Villekulla, has to be the Bubble trumpet.
Swearing allowed – but only in the wardrobe of the Villa Villekulla
I can already hear the outcry of some educators and parents but cursing in the wardrobe, with Pippi Longstocking is allowed, in fact as much as they want to. Kids are even allowed to combine some of the words to create an even worse “swearword”.
Searching, hiding and thinking allowed
There are plenty of seek and find games on the App Stores – but a proper hide and seek game, can only be found in this Pippi Longstocking app: Basically kids hide the iPad or iPhone and parents need to search and find it. Sounds mean, but is actually really fun to play. Pippi helps out by making herself noticeable every now and then.
Apart from that, there are always occasions for kids to search for things around the Villa Villekulla e.g. Mr. Nilsson, gold coins and not least a golden key, which unlocks a treasure chest with another game. Tip: If kids have played all games at least once, Pippi will find the key in her bag. We’re not going to tell you what to expect inside the treasure chest, but we can tell you this much: Even if it may get some adults thinking, we really liked the philosophical extra.
Lilla Gubben and Mr. Nilsson
Besides Tommy and Annika, kids also meet Pippi Longstocking’s pets the horse Lilla Gubben and her monkey Mr. Nilsson. Whenever those two appear in the games, they can get involved in the activities. This way, Mr. Nilsson can get dressed up too. See for yourself as to how Lilla Gubben reacts, when trying to dress him up.
… and so much more!
We can only warmly recommend you this app – you’d have to explore and play it for the most part yourself though, as we have only shown you a short part of the app. Most of it has not even been mentioned e.g. that there’s a separate area, where Pippi Longstocking is introduced via a beautiful picture story.
We have actually tested how many secrets have not yet been discovered after a very long and thorough play with the kids. You can see this on the general map. Only then we discovered the secret room with the treasure chest and many other games. But even if you found and played all of the games, they certainly never get boring, because in many of them, you can play for points i.e. the plate-juggling game.
Pippi Longstocking’s Villa Villekulla | kids app rating
We’ll give the pro’s and con’s a miss this time. Pippi Longstocking’s Villa Villekulla is basically a kids app masterpiece! Perhaps someone can check out the balancing act-game, which we still haven’t managed to play properly, but what does it matter with the size and range of games that this app has to offer.
Kids app rating: “Editor’s Choice”
