LEGO DUPLO is providing us with a new and free toddlers app: Lego Duplo Food, where kids can be their own store owner and prepare and sell all sorts of yummy delicacies. Whether cupcakes, ice-cream or burgers – kids will have fun by taking customers orders, whilst training their reasoning skills through trial and error in creating and matching the foods.

Before the store is ready to open, kids need to make a few preparations. The sign needs to be put outside, the chairs need to be arranged and the shop window needs to be opened – only then it is possible for kids to start preparing delicacies in the kitchen. The different kinds of foods, which are being prepped, have been selected by kids beforehand. They either open an ice-cream parlor, a cake shop or a little burger shop. These options offer kids plenty of alternation.

What can i do for you?

Once the first customers have arrived, the app changes to the vending view. The customers orders are presented as a picture in a speech bubble, so that kids are able to rebuild the orders bit by bit in layers, because all foods are of course built with Duplo bricks. After a couple of customer have been served,  the day ends with cleaning up the mess in the kitchen.

We’ve always found store games for kids interesting and educational. Children have to recreate things, serve customers and get the store ready for opening. The process of the game subtly varies with it’s different dishes and ensures that children like to play the game over and over again. We particularly like the free preparation possibilities.
