Jobi’s Bistro | Fun and Educational Kids Game for iOS, Android and Kindle Fire
✔ iPad + iPhone ✔ Android ✔ Kindle Fire ✔ Mac | for ages 6-8 yrs.
With the entertaining and educational Jobi Apps, the app developers of Yellephant introduce children to various professions. After Jobi’s Firestation and Jobi’s Animal Barn things are now getting culinary at “Jobi’s Bistro”, as kids can now jump into different roles and take over the tasks of a cook and a patissier. In our review, we will introduce you to all mini games and we’ll tell you how we like the implementation of it.
Just like the other Jobi’s apps, Jobi’s Bistro presents the new workplace for kids with cute graphics that we instantly had to fall in love with. Delicious cakes, sandwiches and cupcakes are offered at the ground-floor of Jobi’s Bistro, where the customers also gets to pay at the till, where we have the first two tasks for kids to be carried out: making cupcakes and to cash at the register. After kids have designed their first cupcakes, they get to hand out the correct change to the customers at the till – however, kids will definitely need to know their numeracy (subtraction) for this task. Unfortunately there is no help function for preschoolers.
Cooking Games
Most of the mini games can be found on the first floor of Jobi’s Bistro, where no sweet dishes are being served, but instead, two chefs are waiting for kids to cook and prepare some proper meals with them. The cooking games are being started via touch onto the stove, the pot, the sink or other places of the canteen kitchen and in the following overview, you’ll find all games, that we have discovered on the first floor.
Saucepan: Various foods can be fried with the saucepan and served onto a plate afterwards.
Chopping Vegetables: tomatoes, eggplants, carrots, potatoes, salads and mushrooms aren’t of course served as a whole, but instead need to be chopped into small pieces by the kids. This might be a nightmare for some mother’s in real life, but with the app, it is not only harmless and carefree but also possible.
Sink & Cutlery: Cleaning up afterwards also belongs to one of the daily tasks of working in a kitchen. Plates can be washed in the sink and the used cutlery needs to be hung up properly onto the wall bracket.
Collecting Pots: We’re not quite sure why one pot after the other keeps falling down from the top of the screen but in this game, kids need to catch the saucepans with one of the chefs and proof their skills.
Filling Glasses: Maybe you’re just as surprised as us when you discover fractions in the app like we did, but no worries: Whilst kids bottle each of the glasses differently, they’re playfully introduced to fraction numbers, which appear on the glasses depending on the level.
Following the Recipe: In this memory game, kids need to buy different ingredients for various meals. The chef will mention the kind of ingredients they need to get beforehand and are then checked off on the ingredient’s list.
Reward Coins
Kids will receive reward coins for some of the tasks, with which they can buy pictures that can be collected in an album. Unfortunately not every task is rewarded, something we’ll get back to in our conclusion later on.
Jobi’s Bistro – Kids App Rating
Jobi’s Bistro offers kids many interesting mini games with which they can practice their retentiveness, learn many different food and ingredient names but also get to practice some numeracy.
So far so good, however we could come up with a whole lot of possible improvement ideas:
- We would have for example preferred it if the games would have been linked to one another, which isn’t the case at the moment. Wouldn’t it seem natural if the collected ingredients would also be prepared?
- Some games lead into an endless loop, which means, there is no reward sequence, which seems a little strange – because eventually at some point, the last plate should be cleaned.
- It would also be funnier if the prepared meals could be eaten afterwards.
- Besides cupcakes, many more things that are offered in the Bistro, cannot be prepared unfortunately.
- Kids need to know how to subtract in the cashier game (numbers to 30). Unfortunately, there is no help function available, which would be useful though, as the game tends to mainly attract preschool kids due to the design of the game.
As you can see, we’re not yet 100% satisfied with Jobi’s Bistro, but we are hopeful however, that the app developers will upgrade and improve the only just released game. Whether or not you share the same opinion as us, you can check in our preview video below, where we give you a quick glance at the mini games.
