iRead with Caillou Apps: Show and Tell + What’s that funny Noise?
✔ iPad | kids app for ages 3 – 6 years
eBooks that make children talk – is the exact slogan of the new i-read-with educational storybook apps by Tribal Nova, who have already published many valuable, educational and fun apps for kids with their i-Learn-with apps.
Today we want to introduce you to the first two i-read-with apps with the famous Caillou, which you can purchase for the iPad on the App Store here:
1. Caillou – What’s That Funny Noise? – i Read With learning method for preschool kids
2. Caillou – Show and Tell – An educational storytelling activity by i Read With for preschool kids
The i-read-with storybook apps are based on the dialogic reading method and were developed in conjunction with the University of McGill’s Child Phonology Lab. The apps are divided into the following three areas:
1. Listen
2. Read & Talk
3. Theater
The “Read & Talk” mode is particularly remarkable, as it has been especially designed to be a shared reading activity where parents/grandparents are invited to read together. Children need to participate and get encouraged to engage with the story in an interactive way. Children need to phrase their own thoughts about the story, which is very beneficial for their language and literacy development.
On the bottom of the screen you’ll find two figures in this area, who can even be individually adjusted, so that they may even look like your kids – how nice! After you have read the text/story of a page together with your children, useful questions are being asked and presented in a speech-bubble, that you can ask your kids. Those are sometimes text apprehension questions such as “Why does Caillou like his fire-truck so much”?” but also advanced questions, where your kids can contribute and explain their own point of view.
Living words – words become alive
Another special feature are the “living words” – those are conspicuously marked words, that can be brought to life via one fingertouch. The word “monster” for example, literally turns into a little green monster…
Story Theater
A brilliant extra of this Caillou app is the Story Theater, with which you can create and tell your very own Caillou stories together with your children. A recording mode is available to record your own dialogues.
If you’re interested in the iRead with Caillou apps, you can choose between two interesting and typical kindergarten and daycare stories.
Caillou – What’s That Funny Noise?
Follow Caillou and his parents while they try to put Caillou to bed. Caillou hears funny noises and can’t fall asleep. That’s when the action starts! Mommy and Daddy are always around to help Caillou and show him what the funny noises and shadows really are. Find out if Caillou (and family!) actually get a good night sleep.
Tomorrow is Show and Tell at Caillou’s daycare, and all children have to bring something special from home to show the class. Caillou wants it to be a surprise for his friends but can’t decide which toy to bring… Find out what great surprise Caillou brings to class!
Caillou | kids app rating
The iRead-with apps belong to the most interesting new kids app releases of this year. With the last update, both apps were additionally supplemented with proffesional narration, so that kids can listen to the Caillou story independently without the need of parents. The main focus stays on the dialogic reading method and this does not only engage kids, but also parents.
