i Read With Curious George – Two Wonderful storybook apps for kids
✔ iPad | Storybook apps for kids
The kids apps developers of Tribal Nova have started a remarkable childrens book app series in spring 2014 under the name of “i Read With“, which is now being continued with two awesome Curious George apps, which we’d like to introduce to you now: Curious George and the Firefighters by i Read With and Curious George goes Camping by i Read With.
If you’re not yet familiar with the “i Read With” storybook apps, then these two Curious George apps will most certainly offer you a great opportunity, to get to know the unique concept of the apps. First of all, kids get to choose between three different areas after having started the app: Listen, Read & Talk and Theater.
Listen
In this mode, kids get to listen to the story, that is being read out to them by a professional narrator. Kids can discover some interesting sounds and animations in the wonderful illustrations of the story. The so called Living Words are also a real eye-catcher and become alive via simple finger touch and basically illustrate the actual term.
Read & Talk
This mode has been specifically designed as a shared reading activity with parents, who now take over the narrator’s role. The highlight: Various questions are shown at the bottom of the screen, which need to be answered by kids. This way, kids get to participate and become actively involved in the narrative and get stimulated in a multi-sensory level. If kids are not able to answer the question, then small hints are displayed as a possible answer. A really nice feature is also that users can individually edit and personalize their avatars.
Interactive Story Theatre
The Story Theatre mode is a perfect supplement to the actual story-mode. After kids have listened to the story or got it read out to them, they now get to either invent their own animated stories or repeat the story they’ve just heard. By the way, there are three different reading levels and with each stage, kids can unlock new stickers. These can be used in the Story Theatre afterwards as puppets.
Allowing access to the microphone
If you start the app for the first time, you should allow the app to access your iPad microphone. This one is required for the voice recording in the theatre mode. In addition, parents can add their own voice recordings to the Living Words.
I Read With Curious George – Our Conclusion
The i Read With apps are based on the shared reading method, which was developed in conjunction with McGill University Child Phonology Lab and provide kids and parents with a unique reading experience. Children tend to pick these apps not only because of their beautiful timeless stories with the funny monkey Curious George, but also because of the interesting story-theatre mode with the sticker collectibles. Speaking of the story, if you’re interested in Curious George apps, then you’re really spoilt for choice with the two following volumes:
