Hoopa City | Creating your own City with the brand new Dr. Panda game for kids
✔ iPad + iPhone ✔ Android ✔ Kindle Fire | kids app for ages 4-7+ years
The new kids app by Dr. Panda is called “Hoopa City” and this time, it’s not actually Dr. Panda who’s playing the main part, but instead, it’s Hoopa the Hippo. Kids get to create and construct their very own City for Dr. Panda and his friends, with the help of Hoopa the Hippo, which makes Hoopa City one of the few City construction apps for kids on the App Store. Our kids app of the month is called “Hoopa City!”
Great fun for little construction fans & creative kids
At the beginning, Hoopa is found standing in the middle of a rather empty landscape, which can be scrolled and rotated sideways. The green meadow can be freely decorated, cultivated and built on by kids whichever way they like. The building materials and objects can be found at the top of the screen, which kids can choose from. The first roads, trees and flowers can be placed via simple finger touch and little houses can also be positioned besides the roads. Residents of Hoopa City appear on the screen soon after and kids will get excited, as they’ll recognize some of the familiar faces from other Dr. Panda apps.
Basic constructions and hidden enhancements
Hoopa City is basically about discovering and experimenting with new buildings and objects. Of course, not only houses and roads belong to an infrastructure of a City, but also shops, hospitals, fire stations, playgrounds and possibly even industry and farming. Even electricity can be generated with wind turbines and power plants. Many special buildings can only be discovered by trial and error and skillful thinking, whilst logically combining the 7 elements, that are given in the game:
- Brick – build simple houses
- Electricity (flash) – build wind turbines
- Water – create water surfaces
- Plant – plant flowers and trees
- Money – build a shop
- Streets – place roads
- Heart – construct hospitals
Here are two examples of simple combinations:
- A hospital (heart) combined with water, results in a fire station
- A road combined with a brick results in a bus stop
Other combinations are a little more tricky, where the position of the objects needs to be considered too. In order to get a farm for example, you need to place four greenhouses next to each other.
If you want to check out further building combinations, you can find more in our Hoopa City building instructions.
Village, Town, City, Game World
It’s rather difficult to put Hoopa City down. Towns emerge from little villages and cities emerge from towns, until a whole game world has been completely built and enlivened by countless of game characters. Many details are only found, whilst observing the residents, who interact with the surroundings and buildings. If you build a sports field, then Dr. Panda will surely come and run a few rounds on the cinder track. If you build a harbour, then little boats will sail on the water etc.
Kids never loose track of their progress, thanks to the rotating globe and they can therefore easily find and look for specific places in their city. The game and it’s progress can be saved automatically, whereby there’s only one memory space available. We’d prefer to have more memory space for siblings. Unfortunately, once a city has been completely built, it needs to be demolished by hand as well.
Our Hoopa City YouTube trailer
In our YouTube trailer, we start by building a small town and demonstrate a few transformations of some of the buildings to you.
Hoopa City | kids app rating
Hoopa City is the new Sim City for kids and one of the most interesting new releases for kids this year!
The construction of a City is really easy, does however, draw attention to older kids as well, due to it’s secret building combinations. Particularly beautiful are the buildings, that clearly change your game’s world. You can therefore combine a shop with water and receive an umbrella shop, whereupon it starts to rain and the residents of the city put up their umbrellas. You can also combine a shop with a plant (environment) and receive a bicycle shop, including cyclists in the city. The building combinations are mainly logical and by the way, also further the retentiveness wonderfully. Nevertheless, we would have liked to have had a scrapbook, where kids could have looked up all of the combinations, that they have found.
