Haunted House | Interactive 3D Pop-Up Storybook App by StoryToys
✔ iPad + iPhone ✔ Android ✔ Kindle Fire | Halloween kids app for ages 6-8 years
StoryToys is known for their interactive 3D pop-up storybooks, which are usually Fairytales. Haunted House however, offers a pretty scary Halloween-story, which has most certainly not been written by the Brothers Grimm. But instead, kids get to meet all sorts of spooky creatures such as Frankenstein, Dracula and Jack O’Lantern.
Welcome to the Haunted House
The games that are expecting the children in the pop-up scenes, definitely have priority in the Haunted House, in comparison to the Fairytale apps. Each inhabitant of the Haunted House is introduced with a little text, which also explains the respective mini game. But first of all, kids need to reach the front gate of the Haunted House. This way, they encounter all the inhabitants of the house to sort of proof their fearlessness…
A terrifically spooky Halloween games collection
We really like the various mini games. Of course things are pretty scary and macabre in and around a haunted house, for example, when Frankenstein needs to be tickled until all his body parts have fallen off.
The mummies game however is a lot more thrilling and innovative, as the lights in the haunted house are turned off. Kids have to guess in which room the mummy is hiding, by only being able to see the glowing and dancing eyes in the darkness. It’s a brilliant alternative to the game thimblerig!
Of course this is all scary and eerie – but horror is always close to humour, as you will see in the witch-game: Whilst preparing a magic potion, something goes wrong and the witch turns into a giant banana…
Creepy in-app purchases for extras
We find In-app purchases in fee-based apps dreadful. StoryToys has only just recently decided to subsequently equip their apps with puzzles and a 3D sticker area, each of which can be unlocked via in-app purchase. At least those two in-app purchases are protected and safe. Whether the puzzle or 3D stickers are worth purchasing or not, can be tried out with a couple of free puzzles and stickers. Luckily, our kids can’t be tempted with stickers and puzzles anymore – we’re therefore happy with the story book and it’s range of games as it is.
You can also check out whether your kids find this app creepy or not, by watching our YouTube video trailer.
Haunted House | Storybook app rating
StoryToys offers Haunted House for a family-friendly price, which almost lets us overlook the in-app purchases. Whilst the fairy-tale books are sold for a regular price of $ 4.99, Haunted House is offered for $ 1.99 for a short time only – and is therefore a must have storybook app for kids, now with Halloween coming up.
We have surely not regretted the purchase and are happy to have such a fun and entertaining Halloween app for our kids on our iPad.
