Crazy Gears |Mechanical Learning App for Kids with Cogwheels
✔ iPad + iPhone | Kids App for Ages 5-9 yrs
The kids app developers Seven Academy are specialized in educational valuable games and their latest app »Crazy Gears« also falls into the category: Crazy Gears is a mechanical learning game, with which kids ages 5 years and above, can playfully get to know the functions of cogwheels, by solving mechanical puzzle games. Read in our review below, as to what we think of the app.
Many Colorful Cogwheels
The basic principle of the Crazy Gears levels is always the same: Kids need to wind up a sort of drawer, using various cogwheels, a drive and other components, where the next level with a new mechanical puzzle is waiting to be solved. How each of the components work and need to be assembled, is not explained, but instead, needs to be discovered and found out by the kids themselves. There is no tutorial or hint-function, but the difficulty level starts off really simple and slowly gets more challenging.
Realistic Game Physics
At the time of review the app includes approx. 60 levels, where more cogwheels, rods, chains, drives and later on also tackles need to be usefully combined, in order to open the drawer. All components can be easily moved to the correct position, unless they’ve been fixed to the ground with screws. A fully developed game physics ensures that when the chain for example is moved, it deforms realistically and cogwheels that don’t intertwine with each other properly, don’t have enough power. Also the exact position of the pulley is crucial, because it’ll make a difference of whether or not the transmission can develop enough strength to pull the connected drawer and therefore start the next level.
Handbook for Parents & Teachers
It is worth to take a look at the child-safe parental area of Crazy Gears, where a comprehensive handbook for parents and teachers is offered, which explains the educational background of the game on over 30 pages. If you want to use the app for more than one child at a time, you can also set up an account for more players in the same area.

Crazy Gears | Kids App Rating
Although Crazy Gears looks a little sparse at first, the app does however know how to catch childrens interest. The mechanical puzzles can even be so captivating, that all of a sudden you get surprised by the »Game Over« screen, because you have just played through the whole 60 levels at once. Perhaps this is why the app developers recommend to limit the playing time to 10 mins – but this does not change our desire for more levels.
Conclusion: Crazy Gears is a mechanically sensible learning game with interesting game physics – but with a rather small range of levels and a sober appearance.
(+) Bargain introductory offer of: $ 0.99

(+) Realistic game physics
