Construct a Car | iPad kids app for creating and test driving vehicles with metal shapes
✔ iPad | kids app for ages 3-7+ yrs.
Well, there are certainly lots of various and inventive apps for kids available on the app market these days: With Construct a Car, kids are able to assemble their very own cars, by using various metal shapes out of a toy construction set also known as Erector set, which are avaiable at the toy stores. With the app, kids are able to carry the whole set with them, without having to loose or miss any parts.
One screw at a time
First of all, kids can choose which basic model they’d like to construct with or whether they’d like to start from scratch. The semi-finished models make it easier for beginners and also leave plenty of room for individual adjustments. The various shapes and parts are shown at the bottom of the screen and need to be dragged to the corresponding position. The various parts, screws, brakes, bars, wheels, headlights, arcs, wings and engines etc. need to be assembled just as you’d do with the real erector set. During the construction, some cool sounds appear, as you’d only know them from tire changes at the garage. All in all there are 44 components to choose from.
Test Drive
Once kids have finished their vehicle, they can take them for a drive on a highway test track with several hills. Bigger surprises however, don’t exist during the test drive – the track goes up and down and sometimes the car gets turned around, however can be brought back to it’s wheels via jump-function.
Erector Construction Sets from Toy Stores
After we have tested the app, we have also looked at the construction sets at the toy stores. A very interesting story for children who are technophilliacs and liked to have some alternation to Lego & co. For those of you who’d like to check out the whole collection of Erector Sets, use this link.
In our YouTube video we’re showing you a tutorial of the construction and functionality, which also young children will understand.
Construct a Car | kids app rating
Even if there could be more parts and components and also test tracks, it is still possible to construct many different models with this app. Unfortunately finished models can’t be saved – only a picture can be taken of the vehicle.
Reasonable free version: At the time of review, the free version was ad-free and fully usable except for the test drive mode. If your kids are happy with “constructing only”, we can recommend you the free app, which does however contain an in-app purchase for the full version.
