Sofia the First: Story Theater | Disney’s storybook app for girls
A beautiful Storybook app for mainly girls, has to be Sofia the First by Disney. Even if we do get at least one E-Mail a day, of people who don’t think it’s just for girls, however we’re not going to discuss the gender of this app, we are actually here to talk about the quality and content of this app, which is simply remarkable.
The young readers cannot only expect a brilliant princess story, but also an interactive theater area, where kids can create their own role plays and tell their own creative stories.
Sofia the First is based on the Disney TV-series of the same name, which we personally don’t know, because television plays virtually no role to us (well you have to compensate for the above-average consumption of Apps somehow :-). If you’re familiar with the TV series, then you’ll be happy to know that this story uses the same voices as in the series. Even if you don’t know the TV series, then this truly magical story book app of the little princess seems even more appealing in getting to know her, which can be outlined as such:
“Once upon a time, in the magic realm of Enchancia, there was a girl named Sofia who suddenly became a Princess when her mother married the King.
She discovered a different world made of gowns, balls and enchantment, met new special friends and discovered the real meaning of being a princess.” (iTunes)
Of course there are lots of animations in Cartoon quality to discover, we wouldn’t have expected any different of Disney anyway. Even the text displays vary and differ on each page, so that the app really motivates kids to reading, considering that kids can do so.
Also the number of pages is satisfying and with 21 interactive pages, the storybook app lies slightly above the storybook app average.
Little Big Highlight: The Theater
As we have mentioned at the start of this review, kids can expect a very fun extra in this extraordinary storybook app. Kids can play their very own princess story role plays in this interactive theater and also have the opportunity to record those. So that those extra games can also be played by younger children, each step of the theater production has been provided with speech output to explain each step to the kids. The numbers of actors has also been limited to 3 characters only per scene. Kids cannot only choose between human characters but also animals, backgrounds and other objects.
Once everything has been selected, kids will only need to press the record button to start recording their play, which will take place in front of a background scenery, including the kids voices. We love to watch the kids productions and creativity once they’re finished and also save them as a souvenir.
Pro’s
(+) a very comprehensive multilingual voice output (English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Dutch)
(+) typically awesome Disney music
(+) Theater role play as an unusual extra
(+) protected Parents area
Con’s
(-) Paper characters (like cut out figures) in the theater area are not really our taste
