Montessori Numberland HD | educational kids app for learning numbers & counting
Numberland is an educational kids app for learning numbers and counting by using the Montessori didactics. Numberland has been released a while back, however it forms the basis for another Montessori app: Montessori 1st Operations, which we recently introduced here on top best apps for kids and which also expects kids to already know the numbers from 1 to 10, but exactly this is what Numberland defines with a unified didactic concept and an equally attractive design.
Numberland is illustrated with the two cute characters Tam and Tao, who will take your kids on an adventurous journey through Numberland (up to 10) and where they can slowly discover the numbers 1-9 and the secret of the number zero.
In the parents area, the developers also explain why the zero is lined up after the nine:
“Even if the children can already count to 10, it does not mean that they recognize each number. Numberland teaches them to associate the quality of the number. That’s why the zero comes after the nine. Only when the child understands the numbers one to nine, you can explain the zero to them.”
Great illustrations, a digital notebook and classical Montessori materials
Each number has been given a wonderful and interactive illustration, which doesn’t only invite kids to explore it, it also has many entertaining surprises, similar to a search and find book. You can switch off all of each star in the night sky, whereupon an interesting song appears.
Besides, kids can count all the interactive objects, which are always presented in the relevant number too.
On the picture with the number five and the ship, kids can find:
* 5 bulls eyes
* 5 fishes
* 5 tentacles of the octopus
* 5 windows
* 5 seagulls
The pictures carry more content than you first expect. The octopus is underneath the ship, because some pictures can be scrolled upwards and downwards.
On another picture with the number 2, kids can even play a little memory game with the windows of the high-rise building. The cards do not get turned around, but instead, the curtains by the windows hide the objects – awesome idea! You can even watch the night and day change.
The digits of the illustrations can also be followed with the kids fingers, but not on those pages. There’s a special area for kids to do so which can be selected by the boy Tam.
Learning to write numbers
kids can learn to write numbers inside the digital notebook. The design is a little plain, as kids don’t receive any feedback as to what they draw on the number template.
How this can be done in a much better way, is shown with the kids app: Playground 3 – ABC Edition, although there are only letters and no numbers used.
We prefer the counting games a lot more, where kids get to use the classical Montessori materials such as sticks, and wooden cubes.
