Montessori 1st Operations | best Montessori app for kids so far!
A brand new Montessori app for the iPad and iPhone uses jolly monsters and Montessori didactic, to teach kids the first mathematical operations and this is exactly what the app is called as well: Montessori 1st Operations! This app leaves other Montessori apps looking dry and old, like crispbread in an old wooden breadbox. What should Montessori apps look like in the year 2013, in our opinion? Answer: Just like this!
Montessori? Monsterssori!
Most arithmetical games and operations are accompanied by the funny and cute Montessori-monsters, who really appeal to kids and captivate their interest immediately. The monsters are going to have their biggest appearance at the monster lab, which is a bonus game, where kids can exchange their collected points with monster parts, which can then be assembled like a puzzle. Quote of the parental area of the app: “Children practice adding and subtracting unconsciously, “How many points do I need to buy this arm?”, “How many points remain, if I were to buy this eye?”.
The Montessori Operations
After kids have shook the iPad or iPhone, they’re supposed to place the fallen platelets underneath the numbers, in the correct order and quantity.
Adding and subtracting
The Montessori platelets are also offered in this arithmetical game for calculating, which can by the way, be placed anywhere on the screen, but do however belong to the area beneath the digits. Kids can listen to the pronunciation of the numbers via audio response at any time they need to.
Addition and Subtraction-tables with quizzes
Further educational Montessori games
Bubble game
The game with the monster with long arms is especially interesting, because it is all about capturing the correct answer bubbles with the long arms and placing them in the solution field. This game also offers a plus and minus alternative.
Even and odd + double and halves
Two educational games, where good agility is needed, as bubbles need to be divided until a certain number is left.
Montessori multiplayer!
Montessori 1st Operations must be one of the first Montessori apps, which offer a multiplayer mode. The smart fingers arithmetical game can also be played alone, but it is far more fun to be playing it with someone else. The screen is separated into two halves for this and the player who halves a number first and displays the answer with the correct number of fingers on the display, wins of course.
Tip: Just as with all games, you should deactivate the “multitasking” setting on your iDevice, whenever more than three fingers are applied on the display, so that the multitasking gestures of the operating system don’t freeze or end by mistake.
Parent’s area
Besides the iTunes description, you can also get a lot of information’s in the parent’s area of the app, which is worth reading. For this first Montessori arithmetic operations App, it is assumed that children are able to detect and count the numbers to 10 already. This app is therefore based on another educational kids app called Numberland HD (iTunes link), there are of course a lot more further apps available which are about numbers and learning to count, which you will also find in our educational apps category.
Comprehensive set up options
It is also worth checking out the settings of this educational kids app, where you cannot only deactivate outgoing links and time limits. It is also possible to extend the numbers up to 99 for older kids.
