Happi Full Throttle | fun augmented reality Cockpit app for kids
Happi Full Throttle is a refreshing augmented reality app for kids, which is based on a realistic simulation of a cockpit game. The app puts children in the driver’s seat of various vehicles such as; Fire Truck, Race car, Pilot of a Helicopter and Submarine. This is really exciting for kids. At least with this app, people will stop asking why the iPad and other tablets have a camera function, because this app clearly does know how to make good use of it and especially for the augmented reality app. Let the fun begin!
I used to have a toy, which was similar to the app, where you had cross section of a red sports car including a rear-view mirror, a steering wheel and a pseudo display, where the road was passing by. If you like, then Happi Full Throttle is a modern version of this type of toy.
Instead of a steering wheel, kids hold the iPad in both of their hands and navigate the vehicle with the tilt function. The camera is on during this procedure, which makes the simulation through the windscreen pretty realistic and perfect. Each Cockpit has been provided with individual special features. Of course the police helicopter has been provided with a siren and the Fire Truck has a virtual water hose.
The best effect which the app has to offer, has to be the fact that the camera is able to capture a whole road. I do find the use of this AR app a little constructed and also a little obvious.
I have already mentioned that we have constructed a few cardboard vehicles, which are happily used and played by kids. Sometimes it’s a plane, sometimes it’s a sports car. However, since we’ve got the Happi Full Throttle app, the kids would now like a submarine out of cardboard, where you can open and close the hatch at the top. The built-in iPad is therefore the view to the outside world. The submarine in the app has even got a periscope, which does sort of reduce the vision a little. This is awesome, perhaps you watch a movie about a submarine mission or big octopuses beforehand.
Conclusion: What you can experience and which kind of adventures you’re going to have with Happi Full Throttle, i guess is up to your imagination and ideas. This is not an app, where you can sit comfortable on the sofa with and wait to get entertained. Happi Full Throttle is a kids app, which can be included in kids games. Put three chairs behind one another, where Teddy and a doll can get in the car and kids can sit at the front as the driver of the vehicle.
We really think that AR apps are perfect to be integrated into normal child’s plays and are a lot of fun for kids to experience.
We do wish for an alternative mode, where you can use the steering wheel or stick without the tilt function, this would be great for the steady use of the iPad.
