Disney Infinity: Toy Box | iPad app for kids
Disney Infinity has already been available for Playstation 3, Xbox or Wii since August and now, it is also available for the iPad. The Disney Infinity Toy box app is offered for FREE, however only limited until October 15th. As we don’t possess any console games, we were pretty excited and curious, to whether the Disney Infinity app would be fun enough on the iPad without having to swap it for a console.
Nevertheless, Disney does not waive numerous amounts of in-app purchases in this app yet again, because the Infinity characters are also sold separately for the iPad.
Here’s an overview of the Disney Infinity characters on Amazon.
Even if the app is number 1 on the App Store charts, some of you might not have a clue what Disney Infinity is. Basically, it’s sort of a sandbox game, which means that players can do what they like with the existing game elements in an open world. It all starts of with an empty game landscape, where kids will need to build and create some buildings, landscape elements and decorations. New contents will unlock with the purchase of a new character, which are not sold digitally like the console version, but like another console game: Skylander, as collectible figures in toy stores.
Overview of the free content in the Disney Infinity app
At the beginning there’s only one character available which is Mr. Incredible of the funny animated superhero film “The Incredibles”. So with the muscleman, you can freely have a look around and interact with some things. Of course Mr. Incredible has some special moves, which you can elicit from the rather complex controls. The completely empty game world can be fitted and extended without in-app purchase, with the following things:
* Cinderella’s Castle
* A river pavilion
* Many rock bricks
* A Fairytale forest
Besides, you can also use one single car and build a race track. To bring a little more life into the game, there is a so-called “enemy Creator”, which regularly generates quite pushy villains from the Disney universe. At least now, you can try out Mr. Incredibles’s various hits and punches.
In-app purchases & Disney Infinity Webcodes
If you’re using the characters from the consoles, there seems to be a kind of web code, with which you can also access the corresponding figures in the app. Without these webcodes, you can get the characters via in-app purchase for 0.99 $ each, thereunder Sulley and Mike of Monsters University, Jack Sparrow and many more such as the Cars of Disneys Cars.
However, Disney could not even tempt us with any of those single in-app purchases. We were already bored with the free range.
Tip: You can check out the free range of the game in this YouTube trailer before downloading the 1.3 GB app.

Disney Infinity Toy box app rating
It took us 3 attempts to get to test the app for a while in the first place. The beginning is a little confusing, even though the navigation and the functions are roughly explained. You kind of stand there with Mr. Incredible looking a little lost and disoriented in the middle of an empty and boring landscape. In Minecraft however and other sandbox games, you get at least a landscape with trees, which can be found and explored whereas with Disney Infinity, you start from scratch.
Once you have familiarized yourself with the tough construction mode, you can create yourself a rather desolate world with the free contents. The only highlight is the Cinderella Castle, which is also explored quite quickly actually.
We can’t really say, to what extent the app is gaining on game fun in combination with the console games and in-app purchases. At least for now, the app offers the possibility to check out the Infinity world for free, without the use of a console, which has engulfed $ 100 million in development costs.
