Disney Cars 2 AppMates
awesome and fun iPad game for kids also playable without cars
The matching iPad app to the fabulous kids movie “Cars 2” is now available on the App Store for absolutely FREE.
“Cars 2 AppMates” is now also playable without the special cars from the toy shops.
This improvement should inspire and attract many more children and parents to this iPad kids game. In our review, you’ll find out all the important facts and news that you’ll need to know about this cool app.
Three possible ways to play Cars 2 Appmates with and without the Mobile Application Toys:
1. Play Cars AppMates with a “Paper-Lightning McQueen” = completely free
Choose the Paper Lightning McQueen in the menu. This one was supposed to be used for testing and trying out the actual Cars App.
The paper Lightning doesn’t look as cool as the special AppMates toy cars, however, it would be your free entry into this cars app.
This way you’re able to try it out and see if your child can cope with the navigation of the app.
2. NEW: Play Cars AppMates with the digital toy car | starting from $ 0.99
A little bit hidden in the menu of this app, you’ll find the category “digital toys”, which you can individually buy via in-app purchase.
One should be plenty enough for the start, even if kids most probably want to have them all . Those digital toys are navigated the same way as the paper Lightning McQueen, though they do look much smarter and are out of many other reasons, a better alternative to toy cars from retail shops.
3. Play Cars AppMates with special toy Cars called “AppMates” from the toy shops | about $ 13.00 per car
The really innovative feature about this app has to be the mergence of video game with a real toy. A cross, which really want to call hybrid-toy, or else: hybrid-kidsapp.
Let’s take a closer look at the AppMates:
Red circles:
There are three metal contacts, which are differently arranged, in order for the car to be recognised when it’s layed on top of the iPad.
Yellow circles:
Light openings. A very cool gimmick of the vehicles must be the headlights, as the Cars app also plays during the night. The light falls through these openings and makes those headlights light up. Awesome!
Green Square | weak point of the whole concept
Both of the metalic windows need to be touched on both sides in order to connect to the screen. During the game however, the connection with the window get’s lost, because you tend to look for a more comfortable pose, or want to turn the car around.
That way, the whole concept shows 2 technical weak points: The contact or connection can either be lost underneath the car but also on the sides by the windows (due to the protection film or uneven contacts).
Our advise: Rather use the “digital toys”. There are many different cars for only $ 0.99 for example Luigi. My daughter really likes Hook, who obviously brings along the tow-hook with him, with which you can tow all the other cars to, to help them. That way you earn yourself “hubcaps”, which you can also swap or exchange with other extras in the shops of the app i.e. “drift tires”.
Getting used to the navigation
The free Lightning McQueen and the digital toy car both get steered with two fingers, which you place on the sides of the car. As soon as the second finger touches the screen, the cars drive off. To break and slow down, you release both fingers of the car. At least the acceleration and breaking of the cars is easy.
The steering of the cars however, is a bit different. You really need a little practise with this.
The producers must have been aware of this and have luckily made the cars be able to drive over all of the buildings.
From this awkward driving through buildings and other obstacles, it is possible to even create spectacular stunts at times. Look out for ski jumps and geysers.
It is really worth to practise the navigation and steering, as the game has been made with a lot of passion for detail.
I would say, it is the best kids movie adaption for the iPad ever.
The app is very amusing and funny, even for adults.
* for every accomplished mission, you get hubcaps, which can also be found on the map.
* All cars can be adapted pretty expansively and for free!
* You can experiment and try out many things with all the new extras.
* Great graphics, including a day and night change.
* All the different cars interact with one another differently. It is worth buying more than one car.
* Drive races, frighten tractors, show off some amazing stunts and explore Radiator Springs!
