Bugs and Numbers | pretty extensive educational kids app
“Bugs and numbers” isn’t one of the easiest apps we’re going to introduce to you today and to be honest we’re not really looking forward to this review, as we are just a tad too lazy for this huge, massive and very extensive educational learning app for kids, which actually has 18 (!) different various games for kids to learn with. Can’t we just skip the review and you just simply buy the app? If so, here’s the download link to Bugs and Numbers on the App Store. Ok, fair enough, i guess you don’t really want to. I see, well then be prepared for a long review, let’s go:
Bugs and numbers is the *third part of some very distinctive educational kids apps, which is particularly conspicuous for it’s especially natural setting, which is inhabited by lots of various insects, where a lot of garbage of the civilization is rusting away. By the way, the app does not consider any digust you may have towards pests and is therefore pitiless. Cockroaches and co. are ubiquitious in this great masterpiece app and if this keeps you from purchasing this fantastic kids app, then you definitely missed out on one of the best apps for kids of all times. By the way, we’ll introduce you to the other two apps soon!
In other words, with Bugs and Numbers, kids learn everything they need to learn about numbers, calculations and counting with the help of bugs which crawl over scrap, which has however, been very didactically and ingeniously solved and elaborated.
Now, let’s take a closer look at all of the 18 games. Don’t be surprised about the sometimes weird descriptions as Bugs and numbers is a little strange but in a good sense.
1. Educational game: Number and shape identity at the circus
Various cards with Numbers and Shapes are dangling of a chain of lights, whilst being drawn past the kids. A rocket is hiding in the grass, which is either presenting a number or shape. It is now up to the kids to recognise and choose the according card.
2. Educational game: Practice left and right on an old arcade machine
Kids learn the difference between left and right on an old arcade machine. They will need to implement the instructions correctly.
3. Educational game: Seek and find while counting at a junkyard
Little dirt diggers are gonna love this game. Little Ladybugs are hiding underneath various leaves and stuff, which have to be found by kids. Whilst they do so they will practise their counting ability.
4. Educational game: Tap and count while serving food at the local diner
Your kids will probably ask you what the spinning object is, on which lots of bugs are crawling all over, maybe you will remember this very old record player.
5. Educational game: Paint by numbers at the gallery
This is a really nice painting by numbers game, where by the way, you cannot draw over the border, which is nice and makes much more sense, especially when using smaller displays such as the iPhone.
6. Educational game: Match numbers and shapes at the hotel
Do you have some of those fridge magnets at home? Well this totally illegal discarded refrigerator, which has been left in the forest has a lot of those fridge magnets. Those magnets are numbers, shapes, fruits or robots, which need to be matched into pairs.
7. Educational games: Count to 100 at the garage
By now you’ll have noticed the passion of the app developers, who have also developed a passion for buttons as they have done with bugs, which is has gotten a lot of attention in their first kids app “Bugs and Buttons”. Kids will learn how to count to 100 with Numberbuttons. The assembly line work is a suitable activity for kids, where they will need to sort out the different buttons in the right order.
8. Educational game: Trace numbers and shapes at school
A little Ladybug is drawing a number or shape on a little blackboard which is lying in the grass. Kids will need to follow and trace this number or shape. A funny feature is, that the dragonflies come flying past with a sponge to wipe away the chalk. A great game where also the following of the line has been considered.
9. Educational game: Arrange sequencing on a xylophone
Well, those bars of the xylophone certainly got mixed up in this game and will need to be put back in the right order of sizes. Of course those bars make a sound and one of those bugs is dancing along to it on a CD that has been dropped (soon our kids will ask us, mum what is a CD?) Later on, the bars will no longer be put in the right order of size, there are going to be numbers which need to be put in the right order.
By the way the order of numbers can also be the order of the times tables.
10. Educational game: Comparisons at the theater
In a bugs theatre are always two objects standing in the spotlight at the same time. Which one is smaller? Which one is bigger? Which one is higher, which one is lower?
Level 2: Which one is hotter? Which one is lighter? Which one has more/less?
11. Educational game: Sort, count, and tally at the store
Infront of a shop, a lot of sweets are dropped on the floor infront of it. Now before the beetles can be happy about the new welcoming change on the menu, kids should collect the sweets again and count them whilst they do so. The next step is for kids to also learn the tally list which will ease the counting in steps of five.
12. Educational game: Math with 10 on the ferry
By now kids will learn to calculate correctly. The scenery is great, it’s taking place in an old egg carton, which is used as a ferry for ants. The water looks fantastic.
13. Educational game: Practice time at the train station
Kids will also learn and practise to read the clock with this kids app. In this game they will learn this at a bugs train station. The difficulty level will automatically raise itself whilst the kids are supposed to tell the time on the digital clock and transfer that time onto the analog clock-face.
14. Educational game: Work with fractions at the pizzeria
Various Pizzas are presented to kids, where they will need to place a note with the right fraction on it. Wrong answers will be crossed out.
15. educational game: Measure length and weight in the lab
Now it’s crunch time where every little millimeter counts! Kids will measure different objects with the digital ruler or measuring tape. The ruler can be moved and turned in any direction, which doesn’t just teach how to measure, it also teaches kids how to use a ruler propperly.
A little surprise is awaiting kids after they have finished measuring the objects. Little Ants will come and take the object away, and weigh it on a scale so kids can see the weight of the object too.
16. Educational game: Addition and subtraction on the gameshow
In the bugs world is also a gameshow which is presented by Steve Louse, who gives the show that certain something. There’s no guessing allowed though, so kids will need to calculate propperly with numbers on cards.
17. Educational game: Find patterns in the zen garden
This is sort of a labyrinth game which is mainly based on a certain order. Followed by some Zen-like Asian music the little ant is making it’s way through the paths to the fortune cookie. Only if kids follow the right order of symbols which is shown, the ant will get to know it’s destiny and a few little cookie crumbs.
18. Educational game: Bonus game
The Bonus game is not really a game, but an interactive box full of bugs, which can be won one at a time by kids. We’ll only tell you this much: In the box is much more than you think at the start.
Bugs and numbers | kids app | rating
Bugs and Numbers is a remarkably pretty and lavish kids app! There have been way too many great ideas, gorgeous graphics, smart and didactically nice and sensible details integrated in this gameplay, than could all be mentioned rudimentary in one short review. Bugs and Numbers is a league of it’s own.
