Alex the Handyman | tools, repairs and handicraft app for kids
Alex the Handyman seems to be the only animated handicraft kíds app with educational games based on all kinds of tools, which is available for kids, at least that’s what the app developer writes in his iTunes description, and to be honest, we haven’t yet noticed any others around. Unique or not, the app has to be good and needs to be fun and Alex the Handyman definitely fulfills those needs.
He’s always equipped with his awesome tool belt and never comes without it, if there’s imminent danger i.e. a leaking tap, you can always rely on Alex. As soon as kids hear the word “fixing” or “Handyman with tools” etc, they’ll probably think of “Bob the Builder” or “Handy Manny”. Maybe this will change soon and everyone might think of Alex the Handyman and his kids app.
There is a huge and nice range of little mini games and repair-work missions, which are waiting for toddlers and kindergarten kids to be discovered and explored.
Sometimes kids will need to repair the garden fence, or the ladder of the treehouse.
Even as an electrician he can assert himself, and kids are allowed to actually fix the cables for once.
This way, kids will get to know all the different kinds of tools and their usage. All tools such as a hammer, a pair of pliers, a saw or a screwdriver are introduced to kids and toddlers in a fairly atractive way.
We really like the way the games are embedded in a really big house, so that each room counts a as one game where a small mission of repair work is waiting to be approached by kids. Kids do not only get to learn the different tools, they also get to meet the residents of the house, who are keeping a wary eye on us, to whether or not we are doing our job properly. There aren’t a lot of mistakes that could be done in these games though. Each activity is really attractive, easy and also rather short, like in many other kids apps.
The content of this kids app however, is perfectly adequate for a child app in this price range. Alex the Handyman only costs $ 1.99 at the time of this review.
By the way, kids can freely choose the proper tools for each reparation or handicraft mission. In one of the games, kids did find the proper tool however, they did struggle a little bit with the right movement of the tool to actually be able to use it correctly, i think it was with the locomotive and it’s damaged wheel, where it wasn’t quite sure on how to turn the screwdriver properly. Perhaps it’s possible for the app developer to adjust the navigation a little bit and make it more obvious for kids on how to use the tools properly? We’ll suggest it anyway.
Alex the Handyman is a new kids app notion about tools, which we can really recommend you. All those little handymen out there can explore and discover all the kids-safe game elements, whilst having tons of fun and entertainment. They even get to quench a fire and use a tyre pump. This app is surely worth purchasing.
