Kids Planet Discovery | educational game-app for kids
The actual long title of this kids app already explains what this app, which we want to introduce to you today, is mainly about:
“Kids Planet Discovery – a journey around the world for kids with games and videos to learn about the world’s geography, nature and cultures”
There is a lot of content in this educational app for kids, as you may have guessed already and which you will also get to see in this review.
Kids Planet Discovery is a Freemium app which means, you can download the app for free, but you have to buy most of the contents via in-app purchases.
At the moment, the app has six in-app purchases for $ 0.99 each and two in-app purchases for $ 2.99. For a short time only you can also buy all in-app purcases at once for $ 6.99, where you can save yourself a few pennies.
At first, you can have a look around the free section of the app, which is really good for getting to know the structure and the didactical concept of this kids app.
To make sure that you are in the free content area, you need to look out for the ‘continents’ section in the menu, but be aware of the loading time, as this may take some time for the content to load, we suggest you use WLAN, which might be the best solution for this matter.
The free area is about the different cultures that can be explored all over the world.
The games which we introduce to you here, are a colourful mixture of games, which you can purchase via the fee-based areas, which you’ll may come across:
Memory-games, puzzles, What’s wrong and Dress up games.
A really good example for an in-app purchase is the videos area about the different cultures.
There are over 40 videos about the cultures of the world. Kids can learn about the cultural diversity over exotic dances, funny festivals, special places and also strange and interesting kind of music. Thereunder a short clip about the chinese shadow theater. By the way, you can also try out most of the fee-based areas first before purchasing them. There are still a lot of free contents for the kids to discover, it is therefore worth to not only check out the free area ‘continents’, but also the others.
The whole concept of the kids app, the subject matter and the learning aspects are really good. The map of the world with the integrated games is really fantastic, only the fragmentation in a lot of the in-apps purchases are not really our kind of taste.
Also the games are all kept simple and are therefore basic games, which is not necessarily bad, but it underlines the impression that quantity in this children’s app is supposed to be a matter of priority.
With an kids app, which is that rich in substance, it is really worth to list the pro’s and con’s:
(+) great topics
(+) multilingual
(+) free testing of the in-apps
(-) Many in-app purchases
(-) memory-game tends to turn the cards too quick
(-) no fully translation of the app into the foreign languages
